Gladys, a resident of Manor Lodge Care Home in Harrow celebrated her 100th Birthday in January with a special party surrounded by her loving family, her Manor Lodge friends, the care staff, volunteers from Harrow School and a wonderful surprise visit from the Mayor of Harrow, Councillor Kareema Marikar. This was such a memorable occasion as the Mayor kindly helped Gladys cut her beautiful cake, opened Gladys’birthday card from the Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth ii and read aloud to all the guests. Gladyswas definitely the star of the show, keeping all the guests entertained throughout the afternoon with her jokes and brilliant one liners! It was clearly evident that Gladys thoroughly enjoyed all the celebrations; the musical entertainment, dancing, photo displays, her very own photo shoot and especially her very special visit from the Mayor.
All the staff at Manor Lodge Care Home would like to thank the Mayor for attending and giving such an inspirational speech, acknowledging the importance of providing the best quality care for the elderly within a homely settingand commenting ‘I have been here five minutes and I feel like I am at home.’ The Mayor highlighted how Gladys’ loving family have supported, cared for, made Gladys feel wanted and loved; this is why ‘we are all here celebrating the 100th birthday of such a remarkable lady’. The Mayor, truly is, in her own words ‘a servant to the community of Harrow.’ What is Gladys’ secret to reaching 100? Definitely her strength of character, her special family and a good sense of humour; ‘laughter is definitely the best medicine!’
